iPhone 11 Range Aussie Intel

The wait is finally over. In the early hours of September 11, Apple unveiled its 2019 iPhone range to a throng of rapturous disciples. There are three new models to choose from including the long rumoured "Pro" version and Apple's first stab at an entry-level phone.

Here's everything Australian customers need to know, including the prices, specifications and release date.

New iPhone models

Apple will be releasing three new iPhone models, each in a range of capacities. There's the entry-level iPhone 11, the iPhone 11 Pro which comes with a better camera, and the big boi option, AKA the iPhone 11 Pro Max .

The iPhone 11 will come in a choice of six colours: yellow, green, purple, black, white and red. The Pro and Pro Max will be available in the more traditional gold, space grey and silver as well as midnight green.

How much will the iPhone 11 range cost in Australia?

The iPhone 11's Australian pricing starts at $1199. That's a big leap from its starting price in America (US$699), but bear in mind that the Aussie exchange rate is kind of sucky right now. The US also adds an after sales tax, whereas GST is included in our RRP.

With all that said, $1199 is still a lot of money for a supposedly 'entry-level' iPhone. On the plus side, existing iPhone owners will be able to get it from Apple for $849 with a suitable trade-in.

The iPhone 11 Pro, meanwhile, starts at $1749. (Or $1249 via trade-in.) The iPhone 11 Pro Max will set you back an eye-watering $1899 and up. If you have a device that meets Apple's trade-in criteria, you can bump that down to a slightly more palatable $1399.

Incidentally, these are the first iPhones to nearly break the $2500 price ceiling, with the 512GB Max model coming in at a seriously hefty $2499. Yikes!

Here are the iPhone 11 prices for each available capacity.

iPhone 11 Australian specifications

The biggest upgrade compared to the iPhone XS is probably the new cameras - you now get a wide and ultra wide sensor in the entry level model and a triple-camera array on the Pro versions thanks to a third telephoto lens. The cameras are further bolstered by Apple's new night mode.

All three models can shoot in 4K at up to 60 fps and include photog-friendly features like slo-mo capture, time-lapse, cinematic video stabilisation and extended dynamic range. Despite the more powerful cameras, Apple is touting all-day battery life for its new iPhones.

Naturally, the phones are powered by a new CPU (the A13 Bionic chip) and come with the usual bells-and-whistles you'd expect from a new iPhone range. Here are the chief specs in a handy table.

iPhone 11 release date

Not long now! The iPhone 11 range will be available for pre-order on September 13 and will ship on September 20. You can find out more on Apple's website.
iPhone 11 mobile plans

Australia's major telcos will be selling the iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max on a range of plans but pricing isn't available yet. We should have details by the end of the week.

For context, here's how much the 64GB iPhone XS currently costs on Vodafone. Expect to pay substantially more - especially if you want a higher-capacity model.

Pro Design and Display

iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max have a textured matte glass back and polished stainless steel band, and come in four stunning finishes including a beautiful new midnight green. The most powerful devices are also designed to be durable — iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max feature the toughest glass ever in a smartphone and are rated IP68 for water resistance up to 4 meters for up to 30 minutes, and are protected against everyday spills including coffee and soda.

The new Super Retina XDR display, a custom-designed OLED, provides users an immersive HDR viewing experience for movies and other high-definition video with up to 1,200 nits brightness. Super Retina XDR features wide color support with system-wide color management and True Tone to offer a more natural viewing experience. With a 2 million-to-one contrast ratio with true blacks, pro users can enjoy a more vivid viewing experience for HDR videos and photos, and the Super Retina XDR display is even more power efficient. Customers can interact with their favorite apps in a quick, seamless way with Haptic Touch deeply integrated across iOS 13 to provide app shortcuts for everyday tasks right from the Home screen, including taking a selfie in Camera, checking an appointment in Calendar or previewing email within Mail with just a simple press.

Fastest Performance with the Best Battery Life

A13 Bionic, the fastest chip ever in a smartphone, provides unparalleled performance for every task iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max handle and features up to 20 percent faster CPU and GPU than A12. A13 Bionic is built for machine learning, with a faster Neural Engine for real-time photo and video analysis, and new Machine Learning Accelerators that allow the CPU to deliver more than 1 trillion operations per second. Together, A13 Bionic and iOS 13 make up the best machine learning platform in a smartphone.

All of this compute, graphics and ML performance is delivered while still enabling an unprecedented leap in battery life, with iPhone 11 Pro offering up to four more hours of battery life in a day than iPhone XS, and iPhone 11 Pro Max offering up to five hours more than iPhone XS Max.
