Sculpture: 1st contact




The magnificent 'First Contact' sculpture designed by renowned Aboriginal artist, Laurel Nannup. The wings of the bird are spread out much like the sails on Willem de Vlamingh's ship would of been back in 1697 as he sailed towards the West Australian coastline. The Noongar people here in Perth believed that these tall ships with their white faced occupants were the spirits of their ancestors returning from the dead.
