Google Street View
Google Street View is a technology featured in Google Maps and Google Earth that provides interactive panoramas from positions along many streets in the world. It was launched in 2007 in several cities in the United States, and has since expanded to include cities and rural areas worldwide











How to


Birds Eye (survey the land) - > use DESKTOP drop view 
Jumping (quick moves)  - > Desktop click on blue line or dot to jump 
Walking (in Virtual Realty) - > mobile device rotate to any angle

Globe view is useful to get perspective of Elevation (provided 3D has been applied to that Country)


Elevation: to measure the elevation use

Globe View

change from flat to 3D globe view 


1. Open panel top left corner 
2. select Globe
3. change default view to Satellite (click on small insert map) to change display style from default to satellite
4. 3D effect by hold shift and mouse left click move in any direction




Measurements in Globe view: they continue to show but may change position to allow for 3D effect

Create photo spheres to add your own Street View experiences. 
  1. Start with your phone’s camera or add a one shot spherical camera for easy 360º photography. 
  2. use the diy feature on the app to build a 360 using only the built in mobile device camera
  • Publish to Google Maps to share your photo spheres with the world.
  • note: you will need a gmail a/c and once you upload you can immerse yourself into the photo with google cardboard (see below)

Explore world landmarks, discover natural wonders and step inside locations such as museums, arenas, restaurants and small businesses with Google Street View.


Also create photo spheres to add your own Street View experiences. Start with your phone’s camera or add a one–shot spherical camera (like the Ricoh Theta S) for easy 360º photography. Then, you can publish to Google Maps to share your photo spheres with the world.

• Manage your private photo spheres

Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.












Measure Distance

tips
best display to create is default view (road map)

right click on map, select measure click start and finish
move cursor along line from from stop start to add weigh points then drag to create path
 
joining the start and stop adds elements to the distance data displayed 

showing the map in globe view shows the measure in 3D which can be distorted (trial and error)

Travel Passport


using your FREE google (gmail) a/c 

posting photos or reviews of google listed venues creates a Travel passport log


Example:
we created a dedicated gmail a/c for google SV photos WA tourism


from April 2019 to Sept 2019 total hits of 1,800,000

find hits on your photos = top left

scroll down the photos stream, as you scroll the pins appear on the map



your photos are preserved in free cloud in full size which you can share or embed
