AboutJohn Oldham Park is a bit of a hidden gem and the last place you would expect alongside a busy freeway intersection so close to the city, but once you have found it you will often find that you have the place to yourself, except for the odd cyclist on the path down to the Mounts Bay Road. ![]() Much of the parkland is surrounded by a lake and nature reserve, the car park is relatively small and is paid parking, but once you cross over the bridge you get straight to the playground and open space that kids can run around on quite freely. ![]() The playground is well equipped, clean and relatively new. There are two gleaming BBQ’s and a picnic table nearby and the area is quite shady from trees. Travelling further into the park you will find another new roundabout/climbing frame and then further along the longest slide – possibly in Perth – coming down the hill. Whilst relatively shady, the slide does get a little hot at the end but has a low incline and slow descent! ![]() Slippery Dip one of the biggest around ![]() John Oldham Park has more to offer though if you carry further on into the trees along the path. You can do all sorts of bird spotting on the lake and enjoy a little waterfall that runs through the trees, before getting to another wooden bridge that starts to lead the way out towards the city foreshore. That is if little legs are up to the walk. All in all, John Oldham Park is an unlikely but peaceful setting good for a play, snack and nature walk! ![]() Check in S.M.
